PRESS RELEASE: For immediate release from: The Mountaineer Players and Kitsap Forest Theater, a division of The Mountaineers, a nonprofit outdoors club based in Seattle. Robin Hood – The Legend Continues April 2007 Twenty years ago the Mountaineers Players produced a players’ original production of Robin Hood, The Musical recounting the well known story of Robin of Sherwood Forest. Twenty years later, the Players are delighted to present our 84th show, Robin Hood – The Legend Continues, a new musical from lyricist/director Martin Charnin (Annie), librettist Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray), and composer Peter Sipos (Joan Of Arc) that picks up the story twenty years later. Robin Hood and his Merry Men are two decades older, now with offspring as rowdy and adventurous as they once were. As Robin returns to England from the Crusades, he reconnects with members of the Sherwood Forest gang, including Maid Marian and the child he didn’t know he had. This new musical fills the Kitsap Sherwood Forest Theater with swashbuckling swordplay and scheming intrigue as Robin and his band confront the villainous King John and Sheriff of Nottingham. Heartwarming music, spectacular pageantry and compelling love stories come together to make this a wise, witty, wonderful take on a beloved tale. The Mountaineer Players is the oldest outdoor theater company in the Northwest, presenting shows since 1923 in the Kitsap Forest Theater, and is dedicated to providing quality entertainment suitable for all ages. This unique theater is located on a 290 acre rhododendron preserve near Bremerton on Seabeck Highway. The stage is surrounded by giant old-growth fir with verdant ferns serving as “footlights”, while cedar bark and living moss cover the “wing walls”. Seating is carved out of the side of a natural amphitheatre, and the presentation of our spring show is timed to coincide with the blooming of the wild rhododendrons that grow along the hillsides and down the quarter-mile trail to the theater. This performance provides a wonderful outing for families; countless patrons have been attending shows for decades. Come early to picnic at the trailhead, enjoy the “preshow” entertainment, or simply bask in the splendid environment. It is the perfect opportunity to introduce children to theater and to foster their love of the outdoors. All shows begin at 2:00 pm, and performances go on regardless of the weather. The trail opens at 1:00 pm, so come early for the best seat selection. From the Seattle or Edmonds area, a ferry ride adds to the excitement of the experience, and bicyclists often ride from the Bremerton Ferry.
