A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Arne Zaslove’s 50’s Rock & Roll version (SUMMER SHOW)

Enjoy Shakespeare’s comedy of mistaken identities in Arne Zaslove’s rollicking adaptation featuring classic Fifties’ pop tunes. Set in the Athens High School gymnasium on prom night, 1957, the words are Shakespeare’s but the characters, wearing poodle skirts and leather jackets, sing and dance the night away! The whole family will delight in this accessible, witty and fun-filled show. Show dates are August 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 2008. All shows at 2:00 pm.

KITSAP FOREST THEATER: The quarter-mile trail to the Kitsap Forest Theater transports you from your everyday life to a magical place where stories for all ages have come to life for the past 86 years. Instead of curtains or lights, there are singing birds, a babbling creek and a sun-dappled stage. Theatergoers are amazed by the pristine beauty of this unique venue, located on a 360 acre rhododendron preserve near Bremerton on Seabeck Highway. The stage is surrounded by giant old-growth fir with verdant ferns serving as “footlights”, while cedar bark and living moss cover the “wing walls”. Seating is carved out of the side of a natural amphitheatre.

As Broadway producer Kary Walker said last year: “every city should have a theater like this. I wish all my New York friends could come and experience this place.” This venue provides a wonderful outing for families; countless patrons have been attending shows for decades. Come early to picnic at the trailhead and bask in the splendid environment. All shows begin at 2:00 pm, and performances go on regardless of the weather. The trail opens at 1:00 pm, so come early for the best seat selection. From the Seattle or Edmonds area, a ferry ride adds to the excitement of the experience, and bicyclists often ride from the Bremerton Ferry.
