General Audition Information

The Mountaineers Players present two shows per year at the beautiful Kitsap Forest Theater, owned by The Mountaineers, a 501(c)3 outdoor education and conservation organization. We hold auditions for our shows on both sides of the sound – at a greater Seattle location (Edmonds near ferry dock) and in Bremerton. Exact location for both audition locations will be emailed to you.

We strive to produce high quality shows with stellar acting, singing and dancing. We value strong character development and fast-paced shows. We typically have actors and production staff from both sides of Puget Sound. Season auditions for our 2024 Season will be held in November and December as follows:

Tuesday, November 28th, Bremerton, 7pm – 8pm
Saturday, December 2nd, Edmonds, 9am – 2pm
Sunday, December 3rd, Edmonds, 4pm  9pm

For auditions please prepare a short song – about 32 ms (bring taped accompaniment or use our accompanist) and 1 2  minute memorized monologue or scene cutting. A resume with photo is desired. We encourage actors to audition for both shows (auditions are held at the same time - callbacks at different times). To sign up for an audition, please email auditions at foresttheater.com (include your cell phone number) and give your requested time frame – or call 206-542-7815.  If you cannot make in-person auditions, please email for instructions for submitting a video audition

Audition notices with more information are below for each show.

2024 Spring Show (Matilda, the Musical)

Matilda, the MusicalOur spring show is timed to coincide with the blooming of the rhododendrons on our property. The show opens on Memorial Day weekend and runs for 4 weekends. We need a large cast including talented kids to play the elementary aged students and older teens/adults to play the older kids. There are many roles for leads and for ensemble. This is a high-action singing and dancing show with demanding roles for kids aged 7-12 and teens/young adults. We are still looking to cast a few more kids for the singing/dancing ensemble.

Rehearsal Information

Weeknight rehearsals are held in Edmonds at a church basement near the ferry dock.

We have some weekend rehearsals at the theater in Bremerton (Saturday or Sunday or both days with an overnight stay possible).  Many actors choose to spend the night at the theater on Saturday night and enjoy the camaraderie of "hanging out" together at Kitsap Cabin where volunteer cooks prepare Saturday night dinner and Sunday breakfast and lunch. We encourage carpools and sharing commuter ferry passes to help with transportation costs.

It is our policy to carefully schedule rehearsals so that you are not called unless you are needed. Main characters can be expected to come to most rehearsals.

We have a "Survival Guide" with more information about rehearsing and staying at the Kitsap Forest Theater and information about The Mountaineers Players. You may download our 2024 guide here.

Kitsap Forest Theater is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all individuals and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation in any of its activities or productions, including the participation of staff, volunteers, and performing artists.

Cast Comments

CurlyAndLaureySinging"Honestly, I had no idea what I was getting into when I agreed to Oklahoma! When the Kitsap Forest Theater advertises that you will rehearse in the rain and mud, they mean it. What they don't explain is that you will be having such a fantastic and magical time that you will never want to work in an indoor theater again. Rehearsing and performing in an outdoor space has changed the way I view my work as an actor. Come to Kitsap and you will see that the space itself is alive and it supports the very essence of every production. This should be the value of every set for every actor, however it is hard to remember that when working in indoor, artificially constructed spaces."

"Beyond the physical differences between Kitsap and other theaters, is the manner in which your cast becomes a family. Living together on the property during rehearsal and performance weekends, you build relationships impossible in traditional rehearsal settings." from blog post by Sylvie May, Laurie in Oklahoma!, spring 2011
