General Audition Information

The Mountaineers Players present three shows per year at the beautiful Kitsap Forest Theater, owned by The Mountaineers, a 501(c)3 outdoor education and conservation organization. We are holding auditions for our spring and summer shows (Annie and Big Fish) on both sides of the sound (Edmonds & Bremerton) at the end of January (not December as the last two years). Exact location for both audition locations will be emailed to you. Rehearsals for these two shows will be in Edmonds near downtown on weeknights, and at our unique outdoor theater in Bremerton on weekends.

Our fall show, A Midsummer Night's Dream, will be holding auditions only in Bremerton and all rehearsals for that show will be on the Kitsap side of the water. Auditions are tentatively scheduled for April. Watch this space for updates.

The following information concerns our two musicals, Annie & Big Fish:

We strive to produce high quality shows with stellar acting, singing and dancing. We value strong character development and fast-paced shows. We typically have actors and production staff from both sides of Puget Sound.

Auditions (Bremerton):   Thursday, January 23, 2025 (7:00pm-8:00pm)
Auditions (Edmonds):     Saturday, January 25, 2025 (9:30am to 2pm)
                                           Sunday, January 26, 2025 (4:30pm to 7:30pm)

For auditions please prepare a short song – about 32 ms (bring taped accompaniment or use our accompanist) and 1 2  minute memorized monologue or scene cutting. A resume with photo is desired. We encourage actors to audition for both shows (auditions are held at the same time - callbacks at different times).

To sign up for an audition, please email auditions at foresttheater.com (include your cell phone number) and give your requested time frame – or call 206-542-7815.  If you cannot make in-person auditions, please email for instructions for submitting a video audition

Audition notices with more information are below for each show.

2025 Spring Show (Annie)

AnnieMay 25, 26, 31, June 1, 7, 8, 14, 15 2025 - 2pm

Our spring show is timed to coincide with the blooming of the rhododendrons on our property. The show opens on Memorial Day weekend and runs for 4 weekends.

With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts. Join us for this musical which speaks to the American ideals of home, compassion and perseverance. Annie requires a strong singing and dancing cast with many featured youth/teen/adult ensemble roles.

Callbacks for Annie are Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 9am - 2pm. Download the Annie Audition Notice

Rehearsals start March 10th and are held Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings in Edmonds and include some Edmonds and Kitsap Saturdays and three Kitsap weekend rehearsals (both Saturday and Sunday).  Not everyone is called for every rehearsal. Download the full Annie rehearsal schedule here. See more rehearsal info and details below.

2025 Summer Show (Big Fish)

Big Fish, Summer 2025July 26, 27, August 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17 2025 - 2pm

Our summer show is timed so that college students can spend their summer rehearsing and performing with us and still return to school by the time many schools start in August. The show opens the end of July and runs for 4 weekends. The last performance weekend is usually two weeks before Labor Day.

Big Fish is a rollicking fantasy set in the American South that centers on the charismatic Edward Bloom. The cast of Big Fish is flexible and malleable with a very active ensemble that will portray circus performers, witches, mermaids, townspeople, a giant and much more. Many ensemble members will have solo vocal and dialogue. All roles require singing and dancing; acrobatics a plus.

Callbacks for Big Fish are Saturday, February 8, 2025 frin 9am-2pm. Download Big Fish Audition Notice

Rehearsals start June 2nd and are held Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and include one Kitsap Saturday and three Kitsap weekend rehearsals (both Saturday and Sunday). Not everyone is called for every rehearsal. Download the full Big Fish rehearsal schedule here.

Additional Rehearsal Information for Annie & Big Fish

Weeknight rehearsals are held in Edmonds at a church basement near downtown (and walking distance from the ferry dock).

We have some weekend rehearsals at the theater in Bremerton (Saturday or Sunday or both days with an overnight stay possible).  Many actors choose to spend the night at the theater on Saturday night and enjoy the camaraderie of "hanging out" together at Kitsap Cabin where volunteer cooks prepare Saturday night dinner and Sunday breakfast and lunch. We encourage carpools and sharing commuter ferry passes to help with transportation costs.

It is our policy to carefully schedule rehearsals so that you are not called unless you are needed. Main characters can be expected to come to most rehearsals.

We have a "Survival Guide" with more information about rehearsing and staying at the Kitsap Forest Theater and information about The Mountaineers Players. Download our 2025 guide here.

2025 Fall Show (A Midsummer Night's Dream)

A Midsummer Nights Dream September 6, 7, 13, 14, 29, 21 2025 - 2pm

This production of A Midsummer Night's Dream will be set in 1960s Appalachia. There will be original music and dance inspired by the time period. The original music will be composed by the talented Bryce McGuire, who also composed the added music to last fall's production of The Crucible. With its lighthearted tone, witty dialogue, and enchanting blend of magic and mayhem, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a timeless delight that continues to captivate audiences with its exploration of love, relationships, and the power of imagination.

Auditions and rehearsals will be held entirely on the Kitsap side (most likely at the Kitsap Forest Theater and the Kitsap Yurt). Auditions are tentatively scheduled for April - check back for updates.

Cast Comments

CurlyAndLaureySinging"Honestly, I had no idea what I was getting into when I agreed to Oklahoma! When the Kitsap Forest Theater advertises that you will rehearse in the rain and mud, they mean it. What they don't explain is that you will be having such a fantastic and magical time that you will never want to work in an indoor theater again. Rehearsing and performing in an outdoor space has changed the way I view my work as an actor. Come to Kitsap and you will see that the space itself is alive and it supports the very essence of every production. This should be the value of every set for every actor, however it is hard to remember that when working in indoor, artificially constructed spaces."

"Beyond the physical differences between Kitsap and other theaters, is the manner in which your cast becomes a family. Living together on the property during rehearsal and performance weekends, you build relationships impossible in traditional rehearsal settings." from blog post by Sylvie May, Laurie in Oklahoma!, spring 2011

Kitsap Forest Theater is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all individuals and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation in any of its activities or productions, including the participation of staff, volunteers, and performing artists.
