The Kitsap Forest Theater is alive with the world’s most beloved musical, The Sound of Music. This final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein features a trove of cherished songs, including "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "My Favorite Things," "Do Re Mi," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen," "Edelweiss" and the title number, "The Sound of Music". The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars.
When Maria proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain, bringing music and joy to the broken family. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain. The family’s narrow escape from the Nazi’s over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theater.
Experience the powerful retelling of this story of love and hope in the midst of war and political upheaval in Austria during the 1930’s.
The Sound of Music runs four weekends in 2023, opening on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and closing on June 18 (Father's Day): Sunday, May 28, Monday, May 29, and Saturday and Sunday, June 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18; 2023 – 2:00 pm.
